Questions

1.What are bacteria?List down some characteristic of bacteria.

-Bacteria are prokaryotic microorganisms that are mostly a few micrometres in length.

-Under unfavorable conditions some bacteria form highly resistant spores with thickened coverings, within which the living material remains dormant in altered form until conditions improve.


-The cytoplasm and plasma membrane of most bacterial cells are surrounded by a cell wall

-Most bacteria are heterotrophic, living off other organisms.


2.How can bacteria be identified?

-For identifying bacteria outside the body,it is needed to go through Gram Staining,by staining bacteria with certain dyes and chemicals they can be differentiated. 


3.Name 3 common bacteria and places where they are commonly found.

-Escherichia coli (found in human intestines)

-Staphylococcus aureus (found in uncooked/raw food)


-Vibrio Cholerae (found in stagnant water)



4.Are all bacteria harmful?If not,name some bacteria beneficial to humans.

-No. Staphylococcus Epidermidis and Lactobacillus Bulgaricus.It helps maintain the good balance of the human body.
